Criminal Law
When you have been charged with a crime, you have the constitutional right to a lawyer and to a trial. Perhaps most important of all, you have the right to understand the charges and evidence against you, as well as to confront opposing witnesses. If you are seeking to take advantage of those rights, you have come to the right place.
civil litigation
Many of the differing types of civil litigation follow a similar process within the courts. However, we are conscious that some areas of litigation have their own unique aspects: such as the reliance on experts in personal injury cases, real estate litigation and construction litigation. Also, certain types of litigation often have compulsory arbitration clauses (such as litigation concerning construction contracts).
We represent clients in all Maine courts and Tribunals. We have been involved in briefing and arguing numerous appeal cases to the Maine Supreme Court. We have substantial experience in the compulsory mediation process and trial advocacy.
Land use and environmental regulation
As our knowledge about the impacts of human development on the environment grows, the regulatory landscape becomes more and more complicated for developers and environmentalists alike. As new controversies arise, specialized and knowledgeable litigation and administration becomes critical. Hale & Hamlin attorneys Sally Mills and Zachary McNally are experienced in handling many types of environmental regulation and litigation, including: Wetlands Fill Permitting, Stormwater Discharge Permitting, Aquaculture Permitting, Hazardous Waste Disposal Issues, Land Use and Development Permitting
